CLASS TYPES

Acro

Acro Dance combines the strength, flexibility, and technique of gymnastics with the artistry and expression of dance. This class teaches students the balance, coordination, and body awareness required to learn a range of acrobatic skills such as tumbling, leaps, and lifts. The class emphasizes safe practice, proper technique, and creative movement, allowing dancers to integrate acrobatics seamlessly into their dance performance. Choreographed routines are learned through the year, with students about to showcase what they have learned at both the Floorshow and annual Concert.

Ballet

This class teaches students the foundations of ballet, moving from fundamental placements at the barre to expansive movements across the floor. By following the Cecchetti principles, dancers focus on technique, strength, flexibility and artistry. Choreographed routines are learned through the year, with students able to showcase what they have learned at both our mid-year Floorshow and our annual End-of-Year Concert. These performances provide a wonderful opportunity for dancers to build confidence and share their progress with family and friends.

Contemporary

One of the most popular and familiar dance styles, Contemporary introduces dancers to the expressive and improvisational world of this highly diverse dance.  Playful movement, exploration, and storytelling are all drawn together as students learn to integrate the coordination and spatial awareness typical of Contemporary technique and choreography. Students also have the opportunity to participate in our Floorshow, annual concert, and examinations, gaining valuable performance experience alongside their exploration of diverse techniques.

Hip Hop

Our Hip Hop classes introduce young dancers to the fundamental grooves and steps of this well known street style. With its distinct movements and presence, students explore how this dance has evolved over the decades, including its historical origins and derivative styles. Throughout the year, Hip Hop students also learn a selection of choreographed routines to be performed at either the mid-year Floorshow or End of Year Concert.

Musical Theatre (MT) Voice

Musical Theatre Voice is an acting and singing class that focuses on developing vocal technique, expressive storytelling, and stage presence. In this class, students learn to use their voice effectively for character, emotion, and performance, building confidence and versatility in both solo and ensemble work. The class combines technical skill with creative expression to bring musical theatre pieces to life, with students able to perform what they have learned on stage at both the Floorshow and annual Concert.

What “level” should my child be in?

Choosing a dance style or level for your child can be a tricky task! To help, we’ve provided what we have found to be the most effective steps to getting it right:

1. Each class will have an indication of suitable age levels, this is the best first step (see table below).

2. What style/s is your child most interested in/most likely to enjoy? Sometimes a child may be put off by a particular style because of preconceived ideas as to how it will be, or maybe they had an earlier negative experience. If unsure, we always encourage both children and parents to approach styles with an open mind, and are happy to provide a free trial class if more convincing is needed!

3. Does your child have previous dance experience? This will help to choose between Beginner, Inter and Advanced levels, however we always aim to ensure each child is placed in a class where they not only feel comfortable, but are also continually challenged in their learning.

4. It’s critical for us that your child feels safe, confident and secure in all of the classes that we offer. For this reason, whether it be during enrolments, mid-term queries, or end of year reviews, please don’t hesitate to ask if you feel you would like more information or have any concerns about your child’s classes.

Please use this table as a rough guide to see what group is suitable for your child. Please note, this is only a guide! Our teachers will best be able to place your child in the class best for them. Beginners are always welcome! (Ballet grades are based on the Cecchetti minimum ages for these classes).

Please note: Dance levels/grades do not align with school levels! We’ve listed the average corresponding school grade and age to dance grade. We do however stress that this is a guide and we do also need to take into consideration skill levels to ensure safe dance practice is upheld and students are placed where they are best suited.
